for our Japanese readers

O Som Do Jazz

O Som Do Jazz

Musica Brasileira had some nice things to say about Infinita Bossa by O Som Do Jazz. This is the header on their web site:

"With a classic repertoire of Bossa Nova music, this album celebrates 50 years of Bossa Nova. WIth simple arrangements and a good mixture of solos exhibiting the fine musicians in the group, Infinita Bossa is a nice collection that praises Bossa Nova and its haunting melodies and soothing sounds."

Infinita Bossa Gets Out There!

Disk Union (Japan), CD Baby and Dusty Groove are distributing Infinita Bossa throughout the world. Recent sales include Russia, Italy, Japan and Switzerland, in addition to the U.S. Dusty Groove had this to say about Infinita Bossa:

"A really classic-styled session of Brazilian jazz vocals -- of the sort that takes us back to late 60s work by singers like Elis Regina or Leny Andrade! The instrumentation is quite warm and all acoustic -- jazzy flute, sax, guitar, keyboards, and trombone -- the last of which is played by arranger David Manson, who's kind of the powerhouse of the group. Andrea Moraes Manson sings lead vocals on the set -- with a quality that's light, but never thin or too airy -- just the right sort of 60s bossa mode to please our ears, and a style that few American recordings ever get right! Production is great too, with just the right balance of warmth to remind us of the old days -- and none of the too-bright or too-clear tones that can sometimes mar a modern bossa effort."

KDHX's Radio Rio recently played cuts from the release, as well as WMNF and WUSF in the Tampa Bay area.

Oba Oba

A reader asked me what "Oba Oba!" means.

Oba is an expression of happiness when something good happens. Like Wow! or “that's so cool!” In Brazil, if kids are told that we have ice cream, they might say OBA!!!!! Ice Cream!!!!!

O Som Do Jazz has released its first CD entitled Infinita Bossa featuring Rio de Janeiro vocalist Andrea Moraes Manson. O Som Do Jazz is a working band based in the Tampa Bay area of Florida.

Selections include Ela e Carioca, Brigas Nunca Mais, Batucada Surgiu, Lobo Bobo, Berimbau, Caso Serio, Influencia do Jazz, Noa Noa, Deixa, Corcovado, Voce e Eu, Manha de Carnaval, Sea & Salt, Flor de Lis, Voce Abusou & E Com Esse Que Que Eu Vou.

With admiration of Elis Regina, Zimbo and Tamba Trios as reference points, O Som Do Jazz approached Infinita Bossa imagining what the band might have sounded like in a Rio or São Paulo club date circa 1965.

The recording available online through CD Baby at:
